Unleashed fundraiser supporting the outdoor community
The Unleashed event is a Boulder based community network that celebrates the local and extended ice climbing community.
Unleashed offers support and resources for ice, mixed, and alpine climbers in Colorado and beyond. Janette Heung, together with Chris Snobeck and Ryan Vachon, stood at the very beginning of this gathering and created a legacy of this popular ice climbing festivity. On top of the winter climbing storytelling, Unleashed involves an outdoor gear drawing benefiting various local non-profit organizations (Paradox Sports, She Jumps etc.)
This year, Unleashed 2021 joined the forces with the Janette Heung Memorial Foundation to honor its co-founder, Janette Heung, and the values she stood for. The JHMF has partnered up with Colorado Mesa University (CMU) and 100% of this year's auction proceeds went to the Janette Heung Academic - Outdoor Scholarship, empowering young women seeking undergraduate education in the outdoor industry and therefore bringing more diversity to the adventure community.
The collaboration between Unleashed, CMU, JHMF and the generous sponsors resulted in a total funds of $2305 that will support future outdoor female leaders. Go Girls!
Considering the ongoing pandemic, Unleashed 2021 went virtual this year, yet the event was still a huge success. The Zoom gathering included dozens of guests, multiple inspiring speakers and lastly, an amazing gear drawing.
BIG thanks to Unleashed and its sponsors. Arc'teryx Denver, one of Janette’s original sponsors, showed up strong, organizing a small watch party at their store in Denver and donating multiple outdoor garments. We also appreciate the great support of other brands who sponsored, such as CAMP USA, Hyperlite Mountain Gear, HIMALI, Patagonia, Boulder Rock Club, Wilderness Exchange, La Sportiva, LOWA, Rock and Resole, and The Ice Coop.
The raffle profits were added to the initial $25,000 Janette Heung Academic - Outdoor Scholarship that JHMF donated to CMU.
